Contentin Region
La Merise & La Grande Merise are situated in the countryside surrounded by fields and woods on the Cotentin Peninsula, 45 minutes south from Cherbourg in the small village of Gerville-la-Forêt.

Only 6km from the bustling market town of La Haye du Puits, you will find supermarkets, restaurants, bakeries and cafés, as well as a traditional market held every Wednesday morning. Lessay with its well-known abbey, Reo fromagerie and renowned classical music festival which is held in July and August every year, as well as the 1000 year old Foire de Sainte Croix which takes place in Lessay on the first weekend in September is 5km in the opposite direction. For those smaller provisions, just visit Vesly our neighbouring village 1.5km away which has its own mini marché, café/bar where you can also pick up fresh croissants and bread.
Within a short distance are beautiful wide sandy beaches. Our nearest beach is Saint Germain sur Ay about 10 km away, or follow the coastal road and just explore the magnificent coastline as well as sampling the delicious seafood along the way. Jersey & Guernsey are constantly visible in the distance.

Le Mont Saint Michel is an hour and a half away and a must see and in July and August a very special tour is run at night time. Bayeux a beautiful old town with the renowned Bayeux tapestry is 50 minutes away and the D Day landing beaches, Omaha and Utah about 35 to 45 minutes. Some other places of interest are Coutances, Granville, Barneville-Carteret, Portbail, Barfleur, Saint Vaast la Hougue, La Hague, Pirou with its old Norman fortified castle, Cherbourg as well as many other hidden jewels that haven’t been mentioned.

The Cotentin offers a variety of activities for everyone from walking and cycling the well-marked trails, to horse riding, fishing, sailing and golf. From the gîtes you can borrow our bicycles or walk from the house into the Forêt de Plaisance which opens out onto glorious views of the Cotentin.
